THE UTEACH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
UTeach offers a unique internship program for its participants. Students are paid a generous stipend to work 10 to 20 hours a week with a non-profit organization in the Austin area that provides educational services to the community. Students may choose from a variety of positions such as assisting with the development of educational materials, working directly with families and children, providing guided tours at local museums, or assisting with after-school programs devoted to helping children succeed. Internships have proven mutually beneficial to UTeach students and the Austin community organizations.
Coming this Fall - 3rd, 4th, or 5th Grade STEM Club Coach (Fall 2013)
Help coach students in local schools while running your own STEM club! This position allows for valuable experience managing your own set of students and ranges from 9.5 – 19.5 hours each week at $13 per hour. Please visit http://outreach.uteach.org/internships/stem_coach_3 for more details.
Process for UTeach SUMMER Internships
UTeach will be funding several internships over the summer. These positions will be paid at the same rate as during the fall and spring and will have the same hour requirements (up to 20 hrs per week). Unlike the fall and spring, there may not be an internship for everyone that requests one (funding is very limited). Once funds are exhausted we will close the system so you should contact any site you are interested in as soon as possible to get the ball rolling. Summer interns may work from June 3 – August 15.
EXTERNAL INTERNSHIPS (new) are those that are not paid through UTEACH. They are designated by a * at then end of their name. For these internships, work dates, hours, and pay rates will be set up directly by the site.
Please see the steps below that explain how the summer internship process will work.
1. Check the internship website for summer postings (sites will be posted as they are received)
2. You should then contact the site supervisor directly using the contact information provided on the website and express interest and apply based on their specifications
3. The site supervisor will review applications/ interview candidates
4. The site supervisor will select intern/s and email me the names
5. The internship coordinator will then email you and ask you to fill out an internship request for the site where you will be working
6. Once this is completed, your request will be processed and you will receive an official placement email – you may not start work until you get this.
We are excited about the summer internships and hope to find a place for interested UTeach students. If you do not get a placement this summer, please reapply in the fall. During the fall and spring semesters students that request internships typically receive a placement.
The online Internship Choice Form will open on Monday 4/29 for the Summer 2013 semester. ALL UTeach students requesting an internship must apply using this form EACH SEMESTER.
*** UTeach students that have not held a UTeach internship previously need to submit employment paperwork before they can be placed in an internship. Students may come into the UTeach office PAI 4.02 and ask for the documents they can be downloaded from this website***
The internship coordinator will work to place each intern. Once an intern is placed he/she will be sent an email and asked to contact the site coordinator, set up a work schedule, and complete the site supervisor interview which will come with the email detailing the placement assignment. DO NOT START WORK UNTIL YOU RECEIVE YOUR PLACEMENT EMAIL.
Interns are responsible for picking up timesheets (outside the main UTeach office - see sample below), having them signed by the site supervisor, and turning them in at the appropriate time. The due dates are posted at the office and a paper copy is available for you to pick up. The dates are also posted in pdf form below.
