The UTeach Institute was established in 2006 in response to national concerns about the quality of K-12 education in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—collectively known as the STEM fields—and a growing interest in the UTeach program. The UTeach Institute supports replication of the UTeach teacher preparation program at universities across the U.S. and leads efforts toward continuous improvement of the UTeach program model. The goal of this effort is to increase the number of highly qualified science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teachers nationwide.
