UTeach Internships

UTeach offers a unique internship program for its participants. Students are paid a generous stipend to work up to 20 hours a week with a non-profit organization in the Austin area that provides educational services to the community. Students may choose from a variety of positions such as assisting with the development of educational materials, working directly with families and children, providing guided tours at local museums, or assisting with after-school programs devoted to helping children succeed. Internships have proven mutually beneficial to UTeach students and the Austin community organizations.

At the beginning of each fall and spring semester UTeach provides students with a list of possible placements (see below). If you choose to participate you will be asked to select your top three choices using the on-line choice form that you can access from this page. (Please note: The number of internships we can offer will be based on our current funding status, so get your request in early. Internships will be assigned on a first come first served basis)

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS -  Information about summer internships will be posted in mid to late April.  At that time we will have information about the number of summer internships available and the locations.

REQUESTING AN INTERNSHIP: The online Internship Choice Form is now CLOSED for the current semester. ALL UTeach students requesting an internship must apply using this form EACH SEMESTER.

***Students must be enrolled FULL TIME to hold an internship. In addition, UTeach students that have not been previously paid by UT Austin will need to submit employment documentation after submitting an internship request. Please see the link at the bottom of this page for further information.

PLACEMENT - The internship coordinator will work to place each intern at one of their requested sites. Once an intern is placed he/she will be sent an email and asked to contact the site coordinator, set up a work schedule, and complete the site supervisor interview which will come with the email detailing the placement assignment. DO NOT START WORK UNTIL YOU RECEIVE YOUR PLACEMENT EMAIL. Interns may work from 9/2/13 - through the last class day of the fall semester.

TIMESHEETS AND OTHER GUIDELINES - Interns are responsible for picking up timesheets (outside the main UTeach office - see sample below), having them signed by the site supervisor, and turning them in at the appropriate time. The due dates are posted on this site and a paper copy of the dates is available for pick up at the UTeach office (PAI 4.02). Late time sheets will only be accepted for one past pay period. Repeatedly turning in late timesheets is grounds for internship termination. .(*** Students using a work study award must contact the Internship Coordinator directly to review work study guidelines)

***As an intern, it is your responsibility to ensure that the hours you are reporting are accurate and that only your site supervisor or an authorized representative signs your timesheet.  Compliance with payroll policies is critical. Any errors or falsification may be investigated by the University as well as law enforcement.

Interns are also responsible for adhering to the standards of conduct and internship guidelines posted below.
