UTeach Blog: Students of UTeach graduates learn more

During the 20 years UTeach has prepared teachers, many have asked for evidence that high school students learn more if their teachers come from UTeach. Two recent studies from Texas show that students of UTeach graduates do learn more.

UTeach Austin Alumnus Named Local PhysTEC Teacher of the Year

Richard Wright, a UTeach Austin graduate and physics teacher at St. Andrew's Upper School in Austin, has been selected as Local PhysTEC Teacher of the Year! This award recognizes Richard as an exemplary teacher in his field.

The White House College Opportunity Day of Action and the Obligation to Prepare Teachers

On December 4, 2014, I joined college presidents, charitable foundation directors, and education leaders at the White House College Day of Opportunity. We heard from Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, and Arne Duncan, along with panelists and students.

FSU-Teach Alumnus Awarded New Teacher of the Year

Abria Harris, FSU-Teach alumnus and math teacher, was awarded New Teacher of the Year at Havana Middle School, in Havana, Florida. Abria is now eligible for the district-wide award. Congratulations!

UKanTeach Alumni Win Multiple Teaching Awards

Cassie Absher was awarded the Kansas Teacher of Promise in November.

Michael Ralph, biology teacher at Olathe East Sr. High School in Olathe, Kansas, was awarded the 2014 National Association of Biology Teachers Outstanding Biology Teacher in Kansas.

Brittany Roper, science teacher at Shawnee Heights High School in Tecumseh, Kansas, is a Kansas Horizon Teaching Award winner.

UTeach Columbus Alumnus Receives Two Teaching Awards

Tim Jones, science teacher at Harris County High School in Hamilton, Georgia, and UTeach Columbus alumnus, was awarded Pitsco Teacher of the Month for January. Tim also won the National Science Teachers Association's Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award for New Teachers. Congratulations!

UTeach UMASS Lowell Alumnus Named Campus Teacher of the Year

Eduardo Beato, UTeach UMASS Lowell alumnus and math teacher, was named Teacher of the Year at Chelmsford High School in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Congratulations, Eduardo!

UTeach Outreach, College of Natural Sciences receives 2015 Summer STEM grant for UT PREP STEM Pipeline summer camps

The Central Texas Summer STEM Collaborative recently announced grants totaling $908,109 to nonprofit organizations and schools focused on breaking the cycle of poverty through high-quality educational programs for students K–12 in areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). More than 4,000 students throughout Austin and Central Texas will benefit this summer.
