The Summer 2025 workshop will be held on July 17, 2025 from 9am-5pm.
At the high-school level, nuclear concepts are rarely discussed in depth and usually in the much later chapters of chemistry and physics books. Teachers interested in exploring beyond these introductory concepts are invited to apply for our one-day workshop in Summer 2025 on the UT Austin campus. Teachers will receive 8 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit and a personalized workshop certificate. The workshops are free and all meals will be provided.

Phases of First Year Teachers

The reflection phase beginning in May is a particularly invigorating time for first-year teachers. Reflecting back over the year, they highlight events that were successful and those that were not. They think about the various changes that they plan to make the following year in management, curriculum, and teaching strategies. The end is in sight, and they have almost made it; but more importantly, a vision emerges as to what their second year will look like, which brings them to a new phase of anticipation. "I think that for next year I'd like to start the letter puppets earlier in the year to introduce the kids to more letters."

Pushing students to new levels of knowledge is always motivating. They swear they can’t do it, but when they do it’s such a satisfactory feeling.

Teaching Tip!

Now is a great time to reflect on what’s working and reset for the final stretch of the school year
Take Stock of Student Progress – Use quick formative assessments or exit tickets to gauge where students stand and adjust plans accordingly.
Revisit Classroom Expectations – Spring energy can lead to more distractions, so take time to reinforce procedures and norms.
Keep Engagement High – Incorporate interactive lessons, choice boards, or collaborative projects to maintain student motivation.
Take Care of Yourself – The next few months can feel like a sprint. Prioritize rest, set boundaries, and find small ways to recharge.
