Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders
Makerspace (*UTeach Maker)
Explore digital education and fabrication tools, work on curriculum, and help re-imagine how we might educate students through creative, unique, and equitable, hands-on STEM and Maker activities.
Internship Details

POPULATION SERVED: 6-12th Grade girls from all areas of Austin. 60% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch .
PLATFORMS & TOOLS: Email, Google Drive, Blend/Canvas, Zoom will be standard. Additional platforms may include Adrduino, Tinkercad, OnShape, and a variety of other STEM oriented tools. Access will be supported to the best of ability within AISD’s restrictions.
COMMUNICATION & NORMS: Meetings will be set up for training and regular (weekly or semi-weekly) meetings will be agreed upon for evaluating work and discussing tasks and next steps. During training Online norms will be established and agreed upon. Email and Zoom will be the main forms of communication.

The Academy for Design and Technology (ADT) is one of four learning communities at Austin High School. ADT focuses on applying the design thinking process to teach students to be innovative and critical investigators, self-directed learners, communicators, and collaborators. Interns will support academy teachers with designing and implementing ADT-relevant activities and model these learning pillars for students. |

Austin Partners in Education
Math Classroom Coaching
The APIE Math Classroom Coaching program provides volunteers to middle school math classrooms in 3-4 Title 1 middle schools within Austin Independent School District.
Internship Details
Volunteers will tutor students during students’ math classes. Interns will tutor math students, communicate regularly with volunteers and teachers, and also help with recruiting volunteers from the UT campus. Intern interactions with students will expose them to a variety of students. There may be additional opportunities to help with a monthly newsletter and college readiness.
POPULATION SERVED: The population will be students attending Title 1 schools. Some of these students will be working from homes, and some will be working from schools. Many of our students are Latino. Students may be from 6th - 8th advanced classes or students from regular math classrooms. Schools will decide which students they want to prioritize for working with volunteers.
PLATFORMS & TOOLS: Schools expressed a preference for in-person volunteers but may be willing to work with virtual volunteers (who will work with students in school classrooms).
COMMUNICATION & NORMS: I will have conversations with the interns on a weekly basis to answer questions, direct their work, collect their feedback, etc.
Desired Qualities: Dependability; desire to help; ability to communicate kindly and respectfully with volunteers, students, and teachers; and a FLEXIBLE attitude and comfort with uncertainty.
Days and Times: We will work during math classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. An intern can select the day that works best for their schedule.

Cedars International Academy
Cedars International Academy - Middle School
Cedars International Academy is a PK-8th grade project-based learning campus. Currently, we are in face to face learning. We are seeking interns who will mentor and tutor middle school students on campus. Interns will also support students when completing projects and preparing for state assessments.

UTeach interns will meet weekly on campus in either small groups or one-on-one with students who need extra support. Interns will work with experienced teachers to help students complete all aspects of a project. Interns will also support students who need extra support with daily tasks and/or STAAR lessons. Lessons will be facilitated through synchronous learning.
*Interns choosing to work at this site will be required to wear masks and complete a health screening process.
POPULATION SERVED: Cedars International Academy students are primarily English Language learners and/or students with accommodations.
REMOTE PLATFORMS & TOOLS: Our learning management system in grades 6-8 is Echo. Students are familiar with using google docs, slides, and sheets. Training will be provided to interns by our Technology specialist and/or mentor teachers.
COMMUNICATION & NORMS: Each intern will be given a mentor teacher who helps with training, supervision, and establishing norms for professional behavior. Currently, all classes have norms that have been established when working collaboratively and online.

Cedars International Next Generation High School (CINGHS)
Cedars International Next Generation High School (CINGHS) is a 100% PBL STE(A)M Academy. We are seeking interns who will mentor and tutor high school students. We have the need for one algebra intern, one geometry intern, and one science intern.
Internship Details
UTeach interns will meet in small groups or one-on-one with students to support PBL STEM projects. Interns will work with experienced teachers to help students complete tasks such as unpacking project rubrics, completing project scaffolding, and applying STEM content knowledge to develop products. Interns may also work with experienced Science and Math teachers to develop and facilitate hands-on, engaging lessons that can help prepare students for the EOC Algebra 1, Alg2, and other math and possibly Biology courses.
**Interns choosing this site will be required to wear masks on Cedars campus. This site also asks that if someone is not feeling well to stay home and if someone goes home ill and has a fever they must go to the doctor to ensure they are covid free. If they test positive then they must stay home 14 days and receive a doctor's confirmation they are covid free to return.
POPULATION SERVED: The majority of the students who will be supported by the Mentoring and EOC Preparation programs are ESL students and/or students with accommodations.
PLATFORMS & TOOLS: Zoom, Echo (LMS), Google Docs, Notability, and various apps. The site will provide training for tools used.
COMMUNICATION & NORMS: Each intern will be assigned a mentor teacher who is an experienced PBL facilitator. Mentor teachers will help interns understand targeted STEM content and student-centered strategies for teaching this content.

Hot Science Cool Talks
Using the skills, you have learned with UTeach, you will assist with the development of educational resources for our Hot Science series
Internship Details
Hot Science – Cool Talks is a nationally recognized STEM outreach program that shares compelling stories and research of renowned scientists with thousands of teachers, students, and families each year! This will be a remote internship. Activities include:
- Creating, revising, and customizing lesson plans and hands-on activities related to the Hot Science events.
- Developing K-12 educational resources for future Hot Science initiatives including the upcoming TV documentary series and podcast. In addition, interns may be asked to participate in the following projects, depending on their interest and background experience:
- Assist in developing and revising K-12 learning modules, lesson plans, and activities related to the environment and sustainability.
By interning with ESI, UTeach interns will develop content and pedagogical expertise in creating and revising lesson plans for diverse student populations. Interns will be exposed to a variety of STEM topics and content experts who are great science communicators and share their research in a way that will inspire and engage with diverse audiences, including groups severely underrepresented in STEM.
POPULATION SERVED: Interns will develop content for K-12 STEM educators both formal (teachers) and informal (parents).
PLATFORMS & TOOLS: The internship will be held remotely. Interns will also have access to templates and resources developed by previous UT interns. Files will be shared through UT Box.

Girlstart
Program Leader
Inspire girls to take on the world's greatest challenges! Girlstart is seeking multiple After School Program Leaders (called STEM CREW --Creative, Resourceful, Empowered Workforce) to lead our fun, hands-on, STEM-focused After School programs.
Internship Details
Girlstart After School is designed to provide girls with a fun, free STEM enrichment program that builds confidence and encourages them to pursue paths to higher education and to discover greater career opportunities. This is a rewarding opportunity to work directly with 4th-5th grade girls empowering them in science, technology, engineering, and math activities. Start date for clubs is Sept. 12th. Gas reimbursement and flexible hours are unique features of this position.

COMMUNICATION & NORMS: Training will be conducted with a combination of online modules and a 2.5 hour training conducted at the Girlstart office (1400 West Anderson Lane) to ensure all of our Program Leaders understand Girlstart’s expectations for Girlstart After School. We will monitor work by having group check-ins on a monthly basis, observing clubs throughout the semester, and having individual check-ins when needed. Additionally, Program Leaders are required to clock in and out for their respective shifts each week.

Education Intern
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is looking for an intern that has an interest and desire to contribute to the world in a positive way and how that is done within an organization that has a focus on natural sciences.
Internship Details
Interns will have an opportunity to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom to education programs in a public garden setting. Interns will work closely with the Programs Department and volunteers on a variety of education programs, events and projects that will not only strengthen the skills they already know, but also broaden their knowledge on new skills. Interns will complete a project and present it to staff at the completion of the internship.

Magellan International School
Innovation Lab
At The Innovation Lab for Design @ Magellan International School, UTeach interns will have access to the school’s makerspace and its technology, from digital fabrication equipment (e.g. laser cutter, 3D printer, CNC mill) to more traditional tools like saws and drills and will also have the opportunity to design maker-centric, STEM-based lessons for middle school classes.
Internship Details
Interns will work with a variety of tools, concepts, and techniques that integrate STEM-related concepts in an International Baccalaureate (IB) context. The students at Magellan are curious, enthusiastic, and interested in global issues including social and environmental justice.
*Interns choosing to work at this site must be fully vaccinated and show their vaccination card. Masks are required on campus.
POPULATION SERVED: Magellan is a multi-lingual campus with Spanish immersion and Mandarin starting at 3rd grade.

Math Happens Intern
MathHappens Foundation has consolidated our office and workshop into space less than a mile from campus at 1606 Pearl Street. Our public space, the Math Room, is at the Austin Nature and Science Center and features activities, models and exhibits made by current and past staff as well as others that are designed to interest, engage and entertain people of all ages. Staffing the Math Room from 9-3 on Saturdays and 12-3 on Sundays is one way to work for MathHappens. We also continue to create math “ads” that are published each week with an author credit in the Austin Chronicle. We will train you on the software and editorial requirements to submit an ad. We continue to design, staff and coordinate math field trips at museum locations in the Austin Area, and participate in educational events of all kinds throughout the year.
Internship Details
Our laser shop is at 16th and Pearl street. Interns may be working on the laser cutter, 3d printer, cricut or even laminating gluing and coloring as we make new prototypes and prepare activities and models for distribution. Researching new ideas, continuing with the setup of our new space and supporting other outreach projects with new math models are also possible projects and activities.
POPULATION SERVED: MathHappens Foundation is seeking to reach underserved communities and people who have limited opportunities to learn as well as the general public.
PLATFORMS & TOOLS: We have a number of articles, websites and resources that inform our work and we can provide a copy of Corel Draw for interns. We will be working with Corel draw to make items for the laser cutter and also producing some desktop publishing with Canva and using Google Suite.
COMMUNICATION & NORMS: New interns will be paired with returning staff from summer and previous years. We have a monthly staff meeting and project teams may meet more often. We communicate via email and a shared google drive for work products. There will be an orientation for new staff.
Desired Qualities: Creativity and interest in connecting with math learners of all levels and abilities. Interest in math history, research, math modeling and creative communication.

The objective is to connect your learning goals for this internship with positive student/mentor outcomes and experiences. If desired, you can participate in our Professional Learning Communities where we create, plan, and adjust lessons and assessments, share our successes and challenges in the classroom, and coach each other when needed.
POPULATION SERVED: High school students who are diverse in experiences and interests. Most of our students are English Language Learners in all ranges of language acquisition, from Emergent Bilinguals to fully bilingual students. In this internship, you will learn best practices to deliver STEM content with effective English as a Second Language pedagogical strategies.
COMMUNICATION & NORMS: The intern will work with the assigned teacher, upon mutual agreement, but can also visit and assist in other classrooms if interested. All of our experienced teachers are welcoming and open to share their expertise at any given time.

An internship at NYOS Charter School is an opportunity to work with the Math or Science department! Interns will work with students during class and after school in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus for Math; Biology, Chemistry, and Physics for Science.

At NYOS Charter School, you have the opportunity to work with 7th-grade students through 12th grade. Interns work in small groups before school, during class, or after school for tutoring/interventions and also have the option to plan, create and implement lessons. This internship is ideal for those who want real classroom experience with passionate teachers.
POPULATION SERVED: Interns will work with middle and high school students. Class sizes range from 10 to 18 students.
PLATFORMS & TOOLS: Our school uses mostly Desmos, IXL, Kahoot, Quizizz, Blooket, Kami, Pear Deck, Edpuzzle, and Google Suite. Interns will have the opportunity to collaborate with the teachers and will have access to any of the paid programs/software our school utilizes.
COMMUNICATION AND NORMS: Interns will first meet with the site supervisor to create a schedule based on availability and preferred courses. After setting their schedule, interns will meet with me and the teacher(s) they will work with to establish expectations during class and tutorial or intervention sessions. The site supervisor will communicate with teachers and interns to make sure their placement is a good fit. The supervisor will meet with interns individually as needed to address questions and/or concerns about the work they’re doing.

This internship is an excellent fit for any student interested in teaching a CTE or science class. You can learn new teaching skills and/or technology skills, depending on your main interests.
Internship Details
AISD is currently completely in person, face-to-face, so you will be working with the students in a face-to-face setting. We currently have all 4 levels of engineering, which means that you will have the opportunity to work with 9th grade all the way to 12th grade students at all levels of engineering. We currently utilize the PLTW curriculum for levels 1-3 of engineering, as well as the Engineer Your World curriculum from UT Austin for our capstone course, so having previous experience with this curriculum is a huge plus. We work with all sorts of tools, software, and gadgets throughout the year. This internship is perfect for a student that is greatly interested in gaining experience in STEM education. There is the option of helping out with our robotics club after school as well, where we use Lego robotics and well as VEX.
Health Guidelines and Policies: Masks are currently required anywhere on school premises, even outside and for vaccinated people. Please sign in at the front of the school when you come in the first few times until we get you an ID made. There are no temperature checks, but please do a self-assessment before coming in as is recommended by the CDC. We try to social distance as much as possible, but please be aware that some of our classes can have up to 30 students in them at a time, so it is not always possible to be 6 feet apart at all times. Accurately logging your hours will be important so that the admin can contact trace if the need arises.

PLATFORMS & TOOLS: We use Canvas as our LMS. Software used in class includes: Inventor, Fusion360, TinkerCAD, Arduino, and the Microsoft Office Suite of software.

Desired Qualities: Punctual, reliable, honest, good at communicating, and good with students. If you know another language that is always a plus! We have many Spanish speakers and one of my classes is a dual language course where we conduct the class in purely Spanish.

Interns with Travis ECHS Science will support teachers during our transition to truly blended instruction. We are looking for both in person and remote interns. In person interns can help with making copies, preparing stations and labs, organizing science closets, supporting students in after school tutorials, and more! Remote interns can help with preparing accommodations, finding online resources, preparing and updating existing digital resources, making phone calls, and more!

Interns will be paired with a PLC lead who will be able to give them more specific details. We have lots of resources from before COVID and from when we were remote. We would love help getting ahead in this busy year! Interns might be responsible for developing new activities, testing out or differentiating activities made by teachers, assisting with preparation and organizing tasks, communicating with families, and more! All of this will give the UTeach student an authentic educator’s experience in the virtual world!

The Foundry internship is designed to provide interns with flexible opportunities to broadly explore maker technology in The Foundry and assist with teaching the tools and technology to other students by providing certifications and collaboratively develop projects goal/s for their own maker project.

The Foundry prioritizes creating an inclusive maker learning environment and is designed primarily to service entry-level makers from a broad variety of disciplinary backgrounds. Hiring a diversity of students from all disciplines and with varying levels of expertise assists with creating and maintaining an inclusive environment for both patrons and student employees. Students should expect to work in a collaborative and supportive environment, which will assist them in refining their own teaching expertise and values

POPULATION SERVED: All UT students, staff, and faculty that utilize The Foundry.
PLATFORMS & TOOLS: Students will be expected to utilize Canvas. Any other software needed will be provided by the site.
COMMUNICATION & NORMS: All students will proceed through an established onboarding and training plan in The Foundry. Students will meet with site supervisors to establish goals and project timelines will be asked to provide evidence of progress at least once/month to ensure progress is being made in a way that aligns with intern goals. Students will be asked to participate in an exit interview and will be provided with the opportunity to test out formal presentations prior to sharing them at the UTeach end-of-semester event.

Internship Details
These mentors will serve as a friendly face that can act as a resource for new UTeach students during their first teaching experience. Peer mentors will be expected to remotely attend the Step class/classes the are assigned to work with and hold virtual workroom hours.
POPULATION SERVED: Peer mentors work directly with post secondary students in the UTeach program. They also support UTeach master teachers, instructors, graduates, and mentor teachers as needed.
PLATFORMS AND TOOLS: UT Austin uses the CANVAS LMS and remote instruction takes place via ZOOM.
COMMUNICATION AND ONLINE NORMS: Peer mentors will have an orientation meeting at the start of every semester. They will also have a bi-weekly team check in with Shelly Rodriguez, the UTeach internship coordinator. When engaged in remote work with students, interns are expected to adhere to the code of ethics for Texas Teachers as well as those put forth by the National Tutoring Association.

All positions are designed around your semester schedule and work to help you meet your education and future career goals. UTeach interns will have the opportunity to support and organize STEM activities for local school districts and community partners. Opportunities will include working with or observing active classrooms and after-school clubs. Accompanied by reflection and feedback opportunities, this internship will help you design and/or build upon your current pedagogical practices.

COMMUNICATION & NORMS: Interns will have to sign a contract to work directly with UTHS students. They are trained by our site supervisor to ensure expectations are met. Student tutoring appointments are tracked daily and communication takes place routinely to ensure students are making their appointments and interns questions are being answered. Interns work is monitored through our scheduling calendar, tutoring appointment tracking log and an immediate conversation through teams when a student does not show up for a scheduled appointment. Interns will communicate with UTHS students through UTHS skype accounts and outlook 365 email. Interns have access to UTHS staff through TEAMS (calls/messages) and phone calls.
Desired Qualities: We seek individuals interested in working with high school students in person and via Skype (students live all over Texas, the US, and internationally.) We want students who want to mentor high school students in a non-traditional school environment by helping them achieve academically and providing guidance for students seeking a post-secondary education. Westcave Preserve
Westcave Preserve, located on the Pedernales River in southwest Travis County, is considered by many naturalists to be the crown jewel of the Texas Hill Country. This 76-acre nature preserve has an environmentally rich canyon with a spectacular 40-foot waterfall tumbling over fern-covered travertine columns into an emerald pool. (see www.westcave.org) Hybrid/virtual internship opportunity is available through our Social Media Internship.
Westcave’s mission is to inspire people to develop a lifelong practice of enjoying and protecting nature. Westcave provides weekday environmental education programs and tours to more than 3,500 children annually. An additional 6,000 visitors participate in weekend or evening programs.
Internship Details
Weekend interns will serve as trail guides for Preserve visitors. On the 1 ½ hour tours, interns will lead groups from an arid grassland, through a limestone crevice, into a cool, sheltered canyon to view the Preserve’s magnificent waterfall, grotto and cave. During the tour, interns will provide information on the Preserve’s natural history, geology and biology. Interns will also assist with special family programs on some weekends, work the Environmental Learning Center desk between tours and other assigned tasks to support the Preserve. Weekday interns will assist with school programs by leading guided tours for visiting schools. Training will be provided for all internship positions. When not leading tours, interns will also support the welcome desk, sell Westcave merchandise, interact with a diverse group of volunteers, clean and maintain Westcave’s public restrooms and Environmental Learning Center, as well as other assigned tasks to support the operations of the Preserve.
Optional Add-on: In-person interns have the option in-between tours to help out with Westcave’s social media to create meaningful media that aligns with Westcave’s Mission of, “inspiring people to develop a lifelong practice of enjoying and protecting nature.” The goal is to create relevant stories to encourage people to connect and learn in nature Interns will assist the Social Media Manager in media creation and marketing to create relevant stories to encourage people to connect and learn in nature.
POPULATION SERVED: The initiatives described serve broad, diverse populations, but focus primarily on low-income and urban, or low-income rural students and their teachers.
PLATFORMS & TOOLS: Interns will be expected to communicate regularly with our staff using “traditional” platforms like telephone, email and/or text, as well as other platforms like G-suite and zoom. A knowledge of citizen science platforms like iNaturalist, eBird, SEEK, and Merlin would be beneficial.
COMMUNICATION & NORMS: Westcave has written policies for employees related to use of online platforms and communication between employees, as well as those related to guest/customer interaction that interns will be expected to adhere to. We will communicate using the tools identified in question 4, and their work will be monitored throughout in the form of an agreed and adopted work-plan for the course of their internship.

Interns will provide academic support during tutoring sessions and assist with monitoring students’ progress, understanding of STEM concepts and completion of assignments.
Internship Details
Interns will assist students with developing good study and organization skills and encourage communication with teachers to build confidence in asking for additional help. Interns will role model effective study habits, love of learning, self-discipline, and assist with the application process for advanced programs, colleges and scholarships. Interns will also help with clerical and administrative tasks, such as organization, copy-making, and contacting students’ homes.
POPULATION SERVED: 1st gen students from low SES backgrounds underrepresented in STEM fields involved in the Young Scientists Program.
PLATFORMS & TOOLS: Students and Interns will be invited to Room 109A (on campus) to work on assignments from the BLEND platform and assist with review and corrections of content assessments. Virtual sessions are currently not an option as 99% of the students in the program are on campus.
COMMUNICATION & NORMS: TThe site supervisor will actively monitor every session and seek support for additional AISD staff to assist with monitoring sessions as needed. Interns will be required to register with Austin Partner In Education for additional tutor/mentor training resources and are required to sign the AISD Confidentiality Agreement.
SAFETY MEASURES: All students and interns are required to wear masks at all times. PPE available upon request. Areas are cleaned prior and after use, and social distance will occur when possible.
